22-07-2009 - RES gains FIA membership

Continuing our commitment to third party accreditation, RES Group has now gained membership to the FIA (Fire Industry Association). This, and along with BAFE 'SP 203' further allows us to demonstrate our industry commitment to service and provide reassurance to our customers.

Our membership
The FIA represents the fire protection systems industry promoting best practice in all aspects of business. Membership is open to manufacturers, designers, installers and maintainers of fire protection systems who operate in the UK.
Members are expected to abide by the Leadership Statement and act in the best interest of the industry in the widest sense.

It is incumbent on all companies to be BS EN ISO 9001 registered or equivalent (RES Group).
Those engaged in the design, installation, commissioning, handover and/or maintenance of fire alarm, detection and extinguishing systems must hold the relevant modules of SP 203 or equivalent [LPS 1014, LPS 1204].
Those engaged in the contract maintenance of portable fire extinguishers must obtain SP101/ST104 (RES Group).

About the FIA
The Fire Industry Association represents a diverse membership from on-man bands through to global multi-nationals; from manufacturers through to design, install and maintenance companies involved with electrical, gaseous and water-based products within the 'active' fire protection industry.

Based on the principle that, by working together individual companies can achieve much more than on their own, the FIA represents the trade on issues such as legislation and standards not only in the UK but also in Europe and further afield. The FIA can provide an industry viewpoint to Government and other fire industry stakeholders such as the Fire and Rescue Services (via CFOA), Building Control, architects, specifiers and the insurance industry.

Rasing the standards across the whole industry and 'keeping the cowboys out' is another majot function. The leading companies trading within this industry have the desire to continue to improve the whole industry sector and this is achieved by working through the trade association.
